Sonia M. Novak
December 6, 1937 - October 15, 2010

Sonia M. Novak, 72, of Michigan City passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010 at 9:55 a.m. at St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Root Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Fine officiating. Private family burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. A time of remembrance will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Root Funeral Home.

Sonia was born December 6, 1937 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Rupert and Lula P. (Lawhorn) Forney.

On June 6, 1956 in Nashville, IN she married William V. Novak who passed away on October 18, 2005.

Surviving are five daughters: Susan Marie Novak of Michigan City; Catherine Ann (Michael) Krenkel of Michigan City; Caroline J. (Wesley) Mallady of Shorewood, IL; Mary Ann (Drew) Hyer of Valparaiso, IN; and Michell L. (James) White of Martinsville, IN; four sons: Keith William Novak of Canon, CO; Kevin Patrick Novak of La Porte, IN; Charles Rupert (Lisa) Novak of La Porte, IN and Robert Lloyd Novak of Michigan City; nineteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister: Mary Slevin of Franklin, IN; and one brother David Forney of Columbus, IN.

Preceding her in death is one sister: Helen Earl and one brother: Rupert "Shorty" Forney.

She was a member of the Indiana Trail Riders Association and helped to establish the girls volleyball Program at Marquette High School. She loved to camp and enjoyed outdoor activities.
